There are many ways that a hurried contractor can shortchange you, such as insufficient insulation levels after settling, not protecting soffit vents from being blocked with insulation, neglecting to seal all the major house air leaks, trying to install a non-optimal heating/cooling unit, constructing your ductwork with excess resistance and leakage, and so on.

You can agree with the contractor that they would be paid only after their installation passes the (ECE) Engineer’s inspection. This makes the quality control much easier to achieve.
